7-16-10 This is mama cat, Patches...
7-16-10 If you look towards the darkness between the ladder rungs, you can see one of her 3 kittens. We knew Patches had her litter, but she's kept them hidden UNTIL TODAY!!
7-17-10 Here's a better picture - They're still pretty wild, but they at least stayed in one place long enough to get this picture!

7-16-10 Picked this 11 pound cabbage today! (That's my size 9 foot next to it...)
7-16-10 Needed some fresh whey today so I can make some lacto-fermented cabbage recipes. So, I made some fresh, ricotta cheese! YUM
7-16-10 Pounded the mixture for about 10 minutes to release the juices. (cabbage, caraway seeds, course sea salt, whey) -recipe from Sally Fallon's "Nourishing Traditions"
7-16-10 Lacto-fermented sauerkraut should be ready in 3 days...
7-19-10 Still trying to use up the last of that huge cabbage! I'm trying a new recipe today - Tsukemono (Japanese Sauerkraut) from "Nourishing Traditions". (cabbage, carrots [my addition], onion, naturally fermented soy sauce, lemon juice, course sea salt, whey)
7-19-10 We'll see how it tastes in 3 days...
7-19-10 3 days later - original batch of sauerkraut is ready to go into the fridge today. Taste test was really good! :)

7-24-10 ...and made enough toothpaste to last our family of 4 for 2 weeks! Chemical free and best of all, NO MORE FLUORIDE!!)
7-24-10 Horray! Our first try at making our very own homemade vanilla was a success! Guess it was worth the 6 month wait. :)

7-24-10 COUSINS! Enjoyed a wonderful visit today with our family from southern Ohio & Texas. :)
7-25-10 Today we spent the afternoon & evening with Alice & Jesse Jamison & their 2 beautiful children. Alice is collecting data & stories from families who are trying to follow the Weston A. Price diet and is noting how their health has improved. We had a wonderful time showing them around our farm & look forward to reading Alice's book when she's done with her research. Many blessings to their family as they camp for the next 6 months & meet many new people "from sea to shining sea"! :)

8-12-10 Ahhh, the Dilly Bean season! I'm so thankful the boys help me make this laborious treat. Paul was my washer/sorter...

8-12-10 ...I was the trimmer...
8-12-10 ...and Michael was my jar filler!! We made 22Q this year! Plus, this month, we froze a bunch of green beans & Grandma did all the pressure canning again. We have 24Q for the 4 of us. What a blessing she's able to do that for us - there just aren't enough hours in the day anymore...
